An Alberta councillor has eetlced to bring her newborn to meetings. A fellow (female) councillor did an op-ed piece in the local paper saying chambers had become a nursery. What's fair? I say yes, accommodate nursing moms, to a point. Kids are disruptive. If they're a distraction, it's a legitimate complaint. What's okay today isn't okay in a month. Or two. So sort it out ahead of time.We need more women to enter politics. But we also have to recognize that most workplaces aren't places that are good for kids. My fellow guest was good. She's promoting more women representing in political life. I agree. But she is relying on people using their good judgment and better natures to create boundaries. Not gonna happen. My idea of okay is always going to be different from someone else's. Without clearly negotiated best practices, women's positions will suffer. Clarify, identify and create an environment that accommodates the people who best understand what the families of this country are going through: people who have families. And that's all of us. See how I did that? Autors: Daynnara Pievienots: 8.3.2013
